We regret to inform you that we are closing our pay-as-you-go outgoing fax & SMS gateway services for VPOP3. The pay-as-you-go incoming fax services are still available and will be for the foreseeable future.
Unfortunately, since we released these services several years ago following customer requests, they have been very sparsely used. So much that we have been making a loss on them since the services were started, and the use of the fax service has dropped off to virtually nothing (not surprisingly given that fax is ‘old technology’).
So, we are closing the outgoing fax service immediately because the cost of running the servers is unsustainable. The SMS gateway service will continue to run for now, but we will not be taking any more top-up payments.
We will be removing the user-interface for these PAYG services from VPOP3 in an upcoming version.
A reminder that the incoming fax-to-email gateway service we run is still operational and there are no plans to end those.
If you still want to be able to send outgoing faxes by email, then we can recommend Interfax.net. For SMS messages, you could try Esendex or MessageBird amongst others.
